The museum was established by a Dutch Resident who was concerned to export culturally artifacts from the island in 1910.The museum was damaged in the 1917 earthquake and was rebuilt in 1920s.The museum comprises several buildings and pavilions,including the examples architecture of both the palace and temple,with features like a split gate way and a warning drum tower.The main building has a collection of prehistoric pieces downstairs,including stone and bronze implements,and upstairs are examples of traditional artefacts.The northen pavilion is in style of Tabanan palace and houses dance costumes and masks.The southern pavilion is in the style of a Buleleng palace,and has varied collection of textiles.The central pavilion,with its wide veranda,is like the pavilions of Karangasem kingdom.The exhibits here related to the Balinese religion,including ceremonial objects,priestsfclothing and calendars.
