The big stone cave remains in the northern Ubud
Gunung Kawi is the largest remains in Bali located in the northern Ubud, and it means Gunung = mountain, Kawi = ancient poetry; “Mountain of Ancient Poetry.” From the parking lot to the remains, you climb down about 300 steps stairs, pass rice terrace and stream, and arrive at the remains on the bottom of the valley. The site of remains is broad and there are 2 Imperial mausoleums; for enshrine 4 queens of King Anak Wungsu and for enshrine the king and king’s father. Candi (monument) of the 7m height relief on the cliff is impressive view, and it is worth to see. Candi was curved as the same style as Ellora Caves in India; that shows Indian culture influenced Indonesia at that time.
