It is the creation of Suteja Neka a private collector in Balinese art.The Neka art museum which is quite distinct from Neka gallery was opened in 1976. It has diverse and excellent collections, and is the best place to learn about the development of painting in Bali. The Balinese painting hall provides an overview of local painting, many influenced by wayang kulit puppetry. The Arie Smit pavilion features Smit’s works on the upper level,and examples of the Young Artist school,which he inspired, on the lower level. The Lempad Pavilion houses Bali’s largest collection of works by I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.
