Bali Sightseeing Penataran Sasih Temple

The famous temple for the legend of “Moon of Pejeng”Penataran Sasih Temple is located about 4 kilometers east of the centre of Ubud, and it is the one of six big temple of Bali. On the shrine, there is the big copper drum which is called “Moon of Pejeng” (one side copper drum, use in the festivals) The size of the drum is 1.6 m diameter and 1.8 m height, which is the biggest copper drum in the world! There is the unique legend, “Moon of Pejeng.” Once upon a time, 13 moons shine in ancient Bali. One day, one of the moon drops down in this village and hangs on a coconut tree. The moon shine regardless of day or night time, a theft cannot break into a house because of brightness. The theft climbs up to the tree and urinates to the moon in order to put off light. When the theft urinates, the moon is exploded! The theft dead and the moon dropped to ground… This is the legend of “Moon of Pejeng.” Because of the explosion, the bottom of copper drum is broken. Why don’t you walk around the temple while imagining about the old story?
